ARPU divides net gaming revenue by the number of active players in the period. It is the headline efficiency metric for a player base: rising ARPU with flat player numbers signals better monetisation or a shift in player mix; falling ARPU with rising numbers usually signals lower-value acquisition.
ARPU should always be read alongside retention and churn, because a small number of high-value players can mask a weak mass-market cohort.
